Our Work at Franklin
-
Language Support
Dual-language immersion (DLI) and monolingual students learn the same standards, but DLI students have an added language component. Most of our budget funds language support programs to help our DLI students thrive (e.g. DLI interns & aides, tutoring, books, teaching supplies & professional development).
-
Green Team
BFEF’s Green Team has worked since 2009 to create a beautiful, sustainable campus. Through grants, BFEF funding, and volunteer work, Franklin boasts the greenest campus in Glendale Unified, and is a model for other public schools in Los Angeles and beyond.
-
BFEF Enrichment
As of 2024, Visual & Performing Arts enrichment programs will be covered by Prop 28 funds. But the BFEF will continue to provide Franklin students with rotations in our Learning Garden, art supplies, and supplemental VAPA experiences.
-
Fundraising
The BFEF supports students and teachers by raising funds each year. We are always looking for helpers with good organizational skills, event planning, or just a can-do attitude. Contact us at the link below if you can pitch in!
-
Campus Upgrades
As of 2024, the BFEF took over maintenance of Franklin's air purifier units to protect the health of our community. We also contribute to many important campus improvement projects, which provide our students with additional shade, better grounds, and improved common spaces.
-
Books & Supplies
CA provides "essential" supplies like paper, pencils, and textbooks, but the BFEF ensures that Franklin teachers have the money they need for high-quality classroom supplies, and that our library is stocked with popular, fresh books in all five languages to support student bi-literacy.
-
Enrichment Events
In addition to enrichment classes and supplies, the BFEF supports a handful of popular community events, such as our new Fall Fest, Earth Fest, Film Fest, and our Dance-a-Thon fundraiser in the spring. We're working to make these events self-sustaining to preserve BFEF funds for on-campus programs.
